There were many blind people in the past caused by small pox, poverty, ignorance, misbelieved and inherited defects from the birth or after birth. There was no remedy for them. However, there can be rehabilited by means of Training and Education. There is one institute in Bhavnagar District Viz. Shree Krishna Kumar Sinhji Blind School Bhavnagar for the education of the blind children which was established in year 1932.
Late Shree Krishnakumar Sinhji the emperor of Bhavnagar state was invited as a chief guest by Victoria Memorial Blind School Bombay for coir weaving competition of blind students in 1928. the competitor was blind person named Natubhai Dolatrai Oza of Umrala Taluka of Bhavnagar State, who completed the entitled task within 1.5 hours and was awarded a title of “Netarwala”. During the time Maharaja asked him from where he belongs and he replied polity name of his taluka – Umrala which is established under Bhavanagar State. Maharaja also inquired about his presence in this competition and he replied that there in no such institute in the state which works for Blind. And this answer initiated Maharaja and he decided to have such an institute for blind in Bhavnagar State. Later on Maharaja had discussion with Nagar Sheth – the Prominent Person for State and arranged to have a Blind School. After that on day 06/01/1932 the Blind School was established in the bungalow of Shree Manordas Chhaganlal Shah, located at Satyanarayan Road, Bhavnagar. The responsibility of education to the blind was assigned to Shree Natubhai Oza (N.D.Netarwala). in this time period there were less then 15 blind schools working over the country and Bhavnagar Blind School was one of them during those days.
Mr.Neterwala came to Bhavnagar.Committee was arranged during the meeting for commencement of Blind School. Shri Vishaldas and Shri Manordas family gave their duilding for commencement of Blind School. 1932-This Blind School was started with five Blind Students on 6-1-1932.1956-New building in this year. 1958-Classes of std 5th to 7th started and appointed additional teachers. 1961-Prime Minister Shree Jawaharlal Nehru visited the school during Congress session. 1963-Girls Hostel started. This was the very first school of co-education.1976-77-Visually Impaired students admitted in the general school for education. 1986-87-Started Secondory education. 1989-Technical school started. 1992-Rashtrapati award for industrial activities. 2002-Teachers Training Collage commencement.
